Gemini
Also called: Google Gemini, Bard
Definition
Gemini refers both to the language models developed by Google and to the consumer assistant that uses them. The assistant was called Bard until February 2024. Gemini models also power AI Mode and AI Overviews in Google Search.
The Gemini assistant can rely on Google Search to anchor its answers in recent pages. According to the Semrush AI Visibility Index 2026, it's the platform that cites the fewest sources per answer, 3.3 on average, with a strong presence of Wikipedia, YouTube and retail sites.
Example
An Android user who asks Gemini “which health insurance for a freelancer?” gets a short answer, with few sources, often taken from well-established pages.
What it means for your AI visibility
Few sources per answer means each spot is harder to win. Gemini favors pages that are already strong in Google's world: your Google Business Profile, YouTube videos, the reference sites of your industry.
