AI SEO
Also called: ChatGPT SEO, SEO for AI, AI search optimization
Definition
AI SEO covers all the actions that get a brand to appear in the answers of artificial intelligence: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot or Google's AI Overviews. It is the everyday name for GEO (in French, the most common term is référencement IA), and people also say ChatGPT SEO when they target that engine in particular. For a brand, it is the way to be visible on ChatGPT and on the other assistants.
It keeps some of the basics of traditional search optimization, such as a site that bots can read and useful content, and changes the goal: being named, cited or recommended in an answer written by an AI, where SEO aims for a position on a results page.
Example
An agency that sells “AI SEO” works, for example, on its client's comparison pages, its presence on the review sites of its industry and the clarity of its product pages, then tracks AI answers on the questions its prospects ask.
What it means for your AI visibility
Saying AI SEO rather than GEO is mostly a matter of vocabulary: it's the term your clients and prospects tend to type. What matters is knowing which questions your brand already shows up on, and which ones it's missing from.
