AI visibility score
Also called: GEO score, AI search visibility score
Definition
An AI visibility score combines several measurements into a single number: how often the brand is cited, its position in the answers and the number of engines where it appears. Each tool has its own formula, which makes scores comparable between brands within the same tool, but not from one tool to another.
For calibration: in the Semrush AI Visibility Index 2026, category leaders score between 60 and 80 out of 100, and the 80 to 95 range belongs to about thirty global brands like YouTube or Amazon. A score of 70 is therefore a very good result.
Example
The i am rank scan computes a score out of 100 from three parts: the share of answers where the brand appears (50%), its position when it's cited (30%) and the number of engines that know it (20%).
What it means for your AI visibility
A single score is handy for following a trend, but it hides the gaps. Always look at the breakdown by engine: a brand can score 72 on ChatGPT and 40 on Gemini.
